The European Song Contest “Eurovision 2006” Press Centre
In May 2006, our country hosted for the first time the European Song Contest “Eurovision 2006”, with the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT) undertaking the overall planning of the event. The Secretariat General of Information/ Secretariat General of Communication played a key role in catering to the needs of the Press representatives who visited Athens to cover the event, by setting up a fully-equipped Press Centre, from May 10 to 21, 2006.
The Eurovision Song Contest Press Centre, situated in the OAKA Olympic Complex, consisted of a press working area and a conference room. Two thousand journalists from all countries participating in the Contest were accredited. Thirty-eight of the staff of the Directorate of Public Relations and the Directorate of Services Abroad provided their services at the press working area, the Info Desk and the Pigeon Holes of the Press Centre.
