November 5-8, - Greek Film festival (Filmhuis Lumen, Delft)
The Greek Film Festival 2009, which took place in the Dutch city of Delft from the 5th until the 8th of November 2009, was successfully completed. The festival was organized by the Press and Communication Office of the Greek Embassy in The Hague, in collaboration with the Greek Community of The Hague and the Greek Film Centre. In total, four recent Greek films were screened:
Sirens in the Aegean, by Nikos Perakis
Female Conspiracies, by Vassilis Vafeas
Wandering Tunes, by Angeliki Giannakopoulou
Parvas, by Gerasimos Rigas
The festival also hosted the screening of the documentary “Loutron”, by Dutch filmmakers Barbara Meter and Wim Outshoorn, on the spas of Lesvos. All films had English subtitles and were enthusiastically viewed by many Dutch cinephiles. The official opening of the Festival was held on Thursday, November 5th, 2009, at 19.30, by the Ambassador of Greece in the Netherlands, Mr.C. Rallis.The official opening of the festival was also attended by Mr N. Tsitsigos, cultural affairs officer of the SAE - Region Europe.
May 24, 2009 - Event on Giannis Ritsos in Utrecht
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary since the birth of Greek poet, Giannis Ritsos and since 2009 was declared ‘Giannis Ritsos Year’ by the Greek Ministry of Culture, the Press and Communication Office of the Greek Embassy in The Hague, in collaboration with the Greek Community of Utrecht ‘Anagennisi’, organised a special event on Sunday, 24 May 2009 in Utrecht.
Professor of the Department of Modern Greek Linguistics and Literature and Byzantine Studies at the University of Amsterdam, Mrs. Marietta Ioannidou, gave a speech on the poet’s work, entitled: “Giannis Ritsos: The Picasso of Modern Greek poetry”, which was also accompanied by a multimedia presentation.
The event was honoured with the presence of the Head of the Consular Office of the Embassy of Greece in The Hague, Mr. D. Sparos, the President of the Federation of Greek Communities in the Netherlands, Mr. P. Kerassavopoulos, teachers and members of the Greek Community in Utrecht.
