17 October2008 - Literary Meeting with writer Vassilis Vassilikos

On October 17, the Press and Communication Office in Warsaw - in collaboration with the French Institute in Warsaw and the National Book Centre of Greece (EKEBI) - organized a literary meeting with Greek writer Vassilis Vassilikos at the premises of the French Institute in Warsaw.

Professor Jozef Kwaterko coordinated the meeting and read extracts from Mr. Vassilikos books, while the writer replied to audience questions.

The conference followed a small reception, offering greek appetizers and wine and concluded with the screening of “Z”, Kostas Gavras legendary film, based on a Vassilis Vassilikos novel.

Celebrating European Day of Languages (September 26th-27th)

Celebrating European Day of LanguagesCelebrating “European Day of Languages”, a project that promotes linguistic and cultural diversity in Europe, ten Cultural Institutes and Embassies – members of EUNIC Warsaw Cluster (EU National Institutes for Culture)  - including the Greek Embassy in Warsaw, organized a two days cultural event at Zloty Terasy , a multifunctional complex in the center of Warsaw (26 & 27/9).

The participation of Greece was coordinated by the Greek Press and Communication Office in Warsaw in collaboration with the Center for Hellenic Studies in Warsaw University.

The program included public lessons and story telling, educational competitions  (such as “treasure hunt”), and music events, while participating institutions provided promotional material for the languages involved.

The Greek participation featured soprano Katarzyna Gozny, performing songs of Theodorakis, Loizos and Kougioumtzis, rearranged by Odysseas Konstantinopoulos.

Theo Angelopoulos Retrospective &  Eleni Karaindrou Concert : International  Film Festival In Wroclaw (July 17th - 27th, 2008)

aggelopoulos_karaindrouTheo Angelopoulos Retrospective was included in the 8th edition of Wroclaw’s International Film Festival, a prominent film event which took place from the 17 th through the 27th of July.The screening of Greek director’s masterpieces was followed by Eleni Karaindrou concert (on 26th of July, at the Wroclaw Opera House), with compositions for Angelopoulos’ films.

The concert was attended by the Greek Ambassador in Warsaw Pantelis Carcabassis, Theo Angelopoulos, Petros Markaris, writer -who collaborated with Angelopoulos on many screenplays- Festival director Roman Gutek and the film critic Michel Dimopoulos. After the concert, a reception honouring Theo Angelopoulos and Eleni Karaindrou was held by the Greek Embassy and the Press and Communication Office in Warsaw.

As part of the event, photographer Dimitris Sofikitis exhibited his work documenting Angelopoulos film “The Weeping Meadow”.

“Poems on the Underground” in Warsaw (June 9th, 2008)

“Poems on the Underground”Greek poet Titos Patrikios participated in a literary event in Warsaw, part of the “Poems on the Underground” project, which brings contemporary European poetry to public city areas.

The event took place at Cafι Kulturalna, in the heart of Warsaw. It was organized by the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) / Warsaw Cluster, members of which are cultural institutes and Embassies in Poland, including the Greek Embassy in Warsaw.

Titos Patrikios - whose participation was coordinated by the Greek Press and Communication Office in Warsaw - read extracts from his poems, while an extract from his poem “In the Cities” will be displayed at Warsaw Underground stations till the end of June, as the theme of the project is the “city”.

IV Spoke’n’Word Festival in Warsaw (May 28th, 2008)

IV Spoke’n ’Word Festival in Warsaw
Greek poet and journalist Vassilis Kalamaras took part in the IV Spoke’n’Word Festival in Warsaw (May 28th, 2008), a performance poetry festival which combines readings by European and Polish poets.

The event, part of the Poems on the Underground project, took place at the Centre for Contemporary Art, Ujazdowski Castle, in Warsaw. It was organized by the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) / Warsaw Cluster, members of which are cultural institutes and Embassies in Poland, including the Greek Embassy in Warsaw.

Kalamaras, whose participation in the Festival was co-ordinated by the Greek Press and Communication Office in Warsaw, read extracts from his collection The prophecy of the murder, with a video presentation of the city of Athens on the background.
