Events organised by the Press Office in The Hague - 2008
30 October - 02 November 2008, Filmhuis Lumen, Delft: Greek Film festival 2008
The Greek Film Festival 2008, which took place in the Dutch city of Delft from October 30th until November 2nd 2008, was successfully completed. The Festival was organized by the Press and Communication Office of the Greek Embassy in The Hague, in collaboration with the Greek Community in The Hague and the Greek Film Centre.
In total, four feature films (“Brides” by P. Voulgaris, “Cheap Smokes” by R. Haralabides, “Like Chef, Like God” by St. Niziris, “The Guardian’s son” by D. Koutsiabassakos) and four short films - partly from the Drama short film Festival - were shown. The festival also hosted the screening of the documentary “Whether or not you believe”, by Dutch creators Barbara Meter and Wim Outshoorn, on the small tributes by the side of the Greek roads in memory of people who lost their lives in car accidents (proskinitaria). All films had English subtitles and were enthusiastically viewed by many Dutch cinephiles.
The film festival was officially opened by the Counsellor of the Greek Embassy in the Netherlands, Mr. L. Karatsolis, on Thursday, October 30th, in the Film House Lumen. The Greek Councellor, mentioned, among others, that the films shown on this year's festival, all recent and some already awarded in Greek and foreign Festivals, give the opportunity for a fresh look at the contemporary Greek reality. He also referred to the screening of the documentary “Whether or not you believe”, a documentary that depicts the special relationship of Greek people with death.
