People with Disabilties and Mass Media - Actions

Since 2006, the Secretariat General of Information - Secretariat General of Communication has undertaken various projects in order to highlight the issues concerning people disabilties and mass media: accessibility, participation, and their portayal in mass media.

• International Annual Conference: People with Disabilities and Mass Media

The National Annnual Conference "People with Disabilities and Mass Media" has been succesfully organized for three consecutive years (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009

The 4th International Conference on People with Disabilities and Mass Media took place at  the premises of the Secretariat General of Communication - Secretariat General of Information, on 22-23 June and focused on issues of accessibility to the new developing environment of digital media such as social web, blogs, wikis, facebook.

• Intenational Festival "Emotion Pictures: Documentary and Disability"

The SGC-SGI, in cooperation with the Greek Film Centre and within the framework of the International Conference “People with Disability and Mass Media”, has organized for the past three years (2007, 2008, 2009) the annual international festival “EMOTION PICTURES Documentary and Disability”. The aim of the festival is to present issues promoting the inclusion of people with disabilities and to encourage artists, with disability or not, to take an active interest in this area and address the widest possible audience.

• Speeches and Events

In order to disseminate the findings of the “People with Disabilities and Mass Media” Conferences around Greece, a series of events were organized by the Secretariat General of Communication – Secretariat General of Information (SGC-SGI) around Greece (Kozani, Komotini, Alexandroupolis, Heraklion, Thessaloniki).
